Opportunities From: VolunteerICT

Be part of WSU's largest one-day volunteer event—Wu's Big Event! Join your fellow Shockers for a morning of service as we partner with local organizations to make a positive impact throughout the Wichita community. Students, faculty, staff, student organizations, and community groups are all encouraged to participate.

Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. with a light breakfast and kick-off celebration in Beggs Ballroom. Volunteers will then travel by bus to service sites, volunteer from approximately 10 a.m. to noon, and return for lunch and closing festivities. The event concludes by 1:30 p.m.

Transportation to and from service sites, a light breakfast, lunch, water, and a commemorative T-shirt are all provided.

Wu's Big Event is sponsored by the Community Service Board. Registration is required.

Join your fellow Shockers for a morning of volunteering for Storytime Village's Read and Rise Breakfast Gala. Volunteering take place over two days and include setting up and tearing down from the event. Sign-up for one shift or for them all! 

Join the Community Service Board volunteering with Feed My Starving Children packing meals that will be provided around the world to help prevent malnutrition and hunger. You should wear comfortable clothing, but will be required to given gloves, etc., to wear during the event. For more questions email CSB@wichita.edu

Join the Community Service Board, volunteering to build a home with Habitat for Humanity.

The work on any given date depends on what the project calls for with each day’s activities progress subject to weather conditions, our subcontractors’ availability, the diverse skill levels of our volunteers and other unexpected changes.  If you have experience, please speak up and let our contractors know! Tasks will vary from framing to siding to painting to site clean up to installation of flooring, cabinets, trim or landscaping (and anything else that comes in between).

No experience is necessary. Volunteers should plan to wear weather appropriate and warm clothing that they do not mind getting dirty. Lunch will be provided. 

Volunteers will also be required to register with Habitat for Humanity and will be sent the link to register once they have signed-up on volunteerICT. For questions email CSB@wichita.edu

Join the Community Service Board volunteering at the Kansas Food Bank Warehouse. Volunteers will assist with assembling packages to be distributed through the Kansas Food Bank Warehouse’s, Food 4 Kids Program and other initiatives to help fight food insecurity in our communities. Volunteers should wear comfortable clothing that they might not mind getting dirty.

Join the Community Service Board spending time with local seniors at Larksfield Senior Living Community. Volunteers may assist with various tasks including, yard work, playing card games, reading or just spending time chatting together. No experience is necessary.

Join the Community Service Board assemblying food packages that will be given out during the Feed My Hungry Children initiative. Volunteers will be emailed additional information prior to the event. 

 Join Wichita Clean Stream’s, Wichita RiverWalk Cleanup Crew for a morning of cleaning up the area around the Arkansas and Little Arkansas River. Gloves and materials will be provided. Volunteers will meet at a location determined before the event. Volunteers will be given exact location of event via email before the event.  Please wear closed toe shoes and pants. 

Join the Community Service Board volunteering to serve dinner at the Lord’s Diner. The Lord’s Diner provides a free meal seven days a week, 365 days a year to anyone who needs it! Volunteer tasks may include; dishwashing, serving food, clean-up and registration and greeting guests.
