As a volunteer at the West Orchard Food Pantry, you will assist clients as they receive food from our commodities and pantry programs. This requires walking with clients and lifting groceries. Volunteers will assist clients out to their vehicles to load their groceries.

Location: West Orchard Corps at 1910 S Everett St.

Shifts: Tuesdays and Thursdays. 9:00am-12:00pm and 12:30-2:15pm.

Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming environment for all visitors by assisting with cleaning, organizing supplies, and preparing the community center for daily activities and events. This is perfect for students, businesses, and groups. Shifts available during the day, evening, and Saturday's.

Our small but mighty Riparian Restorers team gathers to collect trash and debris from the banks and creeks inside Chisholm Creek Park! This is a great opportunity for anyone willing to get into some waders, get muddy, and get curious about what's found in the creek. The goal is to help encourage a healthy riparian zone and ecosystem while alleviating these areas of blockages and pollution.

All participants must complete a volunteer interview and sign the necessary waivers to begin work. This is a weather-dependent opportunity.

The Wichita Walk to End Alzheimer's which has nearly 1,200 participants and raises nearly $220,000. Our Walk is on Friday October 24th we will start to be at the site about. We are needing 100+ volunteers.

Naturally Crafty is a weekly craft time geared towards little learners ages 0-5! This is an opportunity for anyone wanting to work alongside kids with fun, easy-to-complete crafts while learning about nature. All volunteers must complete a volunteer interview and the necessary paperwork to begin. 

Northwest Students have an opportunity for free after school tutoring Thursdays from 3:30-5:30. Volunteers would help tutor students in the contents they feel most comfortable with. In addition to the obvious help of tutoring the students, volunteers would also be providing students with more community connections and more perspectives about future opportunities as well as different perspectives about the world around them in general.

Rivercross Healthcare is seeking bedside vigil volunteers to provide support to patients and families in the last days as patients transition. Bedside vigils can assist with running errands for family members, providing relief so they know the patient isn't alone, provide a listening ear for loved ones of the patient, and other various tasks. The most important part of being a bedside vigil volunteer is to ensure the patient is in a comfortable and quiet environment. The volunteer should encourage the family to play soft music for the patient, talk in soft tones, and make other suggestions to ensure the patient has a peaceful transition from this life into the next.

Data entry volunteers greet clients, take them through a client information form and enter completed forms into our database. Data entry volunteers must be comfortable with computers and willing to learn our database. This is a client facing position.

Storage room organizers sort donated items into their proper locations, clean and organize shelter storage rooms, and label items. Ability to stand for extended periods of time, crouch, bend, climb and carry at least 20lbs is required for this position.

Qualifications include: Good organizational skills, ability to use a ladder and lift heavy objects if necessary

Looking for volunteers with a flexible schedule that allows them to come in at least twice a month.

Volunteers in this position are required to pass a background check and take a 3 hour class called VIRTUS. VIRTUS teaches adults the signs of child abuse and neglect as well as the best practices Catholic Charities follows to protect youth and vulnerable adults in our ministries.

Provide companionship, in-home care and/or respite care to homebound senior clients 60 years of age and older. Senior Companions earn a stipend by volunteering 15 - 40 hours per week. Provide in-home care such as light housekeeping (dusting, light meal preparation) and transportation to appointments. Provide social support.

Our disaster team, made up of community volunteers, provides care to individuals impacted by disasters. We also serve first responders and emergency workers. EDS volunteers can choose to respond to local, regional, national disasters, and even global disasters.

We rely on the time and talent of people who share our call to serve the poor and those in need of help. Computer experience is appreciated but not required. Compeer is a national mentoring program hosted by MHA that serves the needs of those dealing with mental health issues (or who have a guardian dealing with Mental health issues). Currently we are recruiting mentors for our Compeer Lunch Buddy program. Volunteers are trained in mentoring and mental health before they are matched with a student. Once matched, they spend at least one hour a week at the student's school during lunch/recess. To provide engaging, accurate, and fun guided museum experiences to all ages.

A historical museum docent is an eager and enthusiastic volunteer who is dedicated to telling the story of our community.

Docents receive training on the areas of the museum that interest them the most, learning more about the history, culture, and artifacts featured in the museum's exhibits. They are passionate about sharing information and stories with visitors of all ages and backgrounds.

As a historical museum docent, you may lead groups of visitors (typically not more than 10 per group) on tours of the museum's exhibits, providing them with insights and information about the artifacts they are viewing. (Examples of tours: Senior Wednesday Program, School Field Trips, Family Programs during school breaks and weekends). These opportunities are often during the week and can be scheduled anytime between 9am-4pm.

Occasionally, Docents are requested for off-site speaking engagements in the evenings, for groups requesting talks on local history at their club or meeting location.

Additionally, Docents are needed during our Free Sundays to provide our drop-in guests with available contacts throughout the museum for any questions they have during their visit. These opportunities are flexible to your availability during Museum Hours 1-5pm.

The Tanganyika Docent Program is for people who believe that we are responsible for being stewards of the earth’s rare and endangered species. To fulfill Tanganyika’s mission, we must have a significant impact on the lives of people by providing REAL experiences that are entertaining and educational.

Docents are assistant educators who share a passion for animals and for engaging students and adults in interactive experiences.

Docents can volunteer in various activities around the park, including our Education Programs, Camps & Classes, Animal Encounter Stations, Special Events, Office Projects, Animal Handling and Animal Care (Over 18). Some of these activities, like Animal Care, do require onsite training before you are eligible to participate.

Licensed medical volunteers are required to care for those in need. We will schedule patients per your schedule and provide medical support staff and interpreters as required.

We serve every Sunday morning from 8-11am. Set usually starts around 7:45am. We are in the parking lot 445 N Market. We have our mobile shower unit available for those experiencing homelessness to take hot showers in our private unit. We provide their towel, toiletries and other supplies.

As a kitty escort, you will be responsible for ensuring cats make it to and/or from their spay appointments. We have shifts for drop-off at Kansas Humane Society. You would pick the cat up from the rescue in Derby and drive to KHS for drop-off promptly at 7:30 am. Another shift is pick-up from KHS and drop-off at the rescue. Pick-up is between 4 pm and 4:30 pm. No special skills are required just reliable transportation and the ability to be timely. We have shifts a few times a month and you schedule yourself so it is a low-commitment role with still a high impact!

As part of the storefront crew, you have the biggest impact by being responsible for greeting customers, assisting with adoption and playtime waiver paperwork, showing off the adoptable cats, light cleaning the storefront, managing payments from storefront purchases, adoption fees, and donations, and playing with the storefront free-roaming cats. Our storefront hours are Friday 11-3, Saturday 11-4, and Sunday 12-4. Training will be provided during another volunteer's scheduled shift. Once onboarding training is completed, you will schedule yourself for shifts on our calendar. Some volunteers are scheduled each week while others fill in for vacant shifts. We do ask that you can fulfill the entire shift or find someone to fill the unmanned portion. Typically Saturday and Sunday are our busiest days. Playing with cats is the real perk here!

Onboarding training will be with another volunteer and likely done during our storefront hours: Friday 11-3, Saturday 11-4, or Sunday 12-4. Once the onboarding training is complete, you will be able to schedule yourself for shifts on our calendar. There are morning and night shifts seven days a week. You don't need to project your shift very far in advance or be consistent with the same shift every week. We appreciate any time you are able to dedicate to our cats. All cleaning supplies will be provided. Playing with cats is the real perk here! Whatever your skill is there is a place for you here at Save the Kitties.

Coach/facilitate practices and games while providing a safe environment for youth to learn, grow and develop through various sports. Attend coaches meetings and related functions. Contact all team members and inform them of practice times and dates as well as pass out materials to parents when necessary. Maintain equipment and materials in an orderly and safe manner. Exhibit an positive and encouraging attitude.

Prior experience  is helpful as well as general knowledge of sport being coached. Must enjoy working with and relating to children at a particular skill and age level. Must be eager to instruct, motivate, and be a positive role model and fully support the YMCA Youth Sports Philosophy. Because the safety of our children and members is extremely important to us, the Y reserves the right to conduct background and reference checks on all volunteers.

Gift Shop Attendant

The Amelia's Landing Gift Shop at the Kansas Aviation Museum offers volunteer opportunities during the week and weekend. We provide training and materials to ensure that you will have a successful and enjoyable volunteer experience.

Our Amelia's Landing sells a variety of aviation themed items. Gift Shop attendants will assist with sales, stocking, and keeping the gift shop and lobby clean and attractive to our museum guests. 

This is the first point of contact for most of our guests so the gift shop attendants need to have strong customer service skills. Prior cashier skills are valued but we are happy to train if needed. 

If you would like to volunteer in the gift shop but do not want the responsibility of handling the register duties, we are happy to have your help in stocking shelves, folding museum brochures, assisting guests with questions about where the exhibits are in the museum, and light cleaning duties in the gift shop and lobby area.

Tour Guides aka Docents

Kansans truly value Kansas history, especially aviation history, and represent our largest group of visitors. But the museum also hosts visitors from all over the country and the world.

As a tour guide, you’ll meet some of the nicest people in the world, all interested in the story of Kansas aviation. They could be members of a local Scout troop, school children on a field trip, a family on vacation from another state, or executives from another country.

Since we opened in 1991, we’ve had visitors from all 50 states and from every country in the world. As a museum tour guide, you can be right there to meet these interesting folks, sharing the fascinating history of Kansas aviation and the story of our beautiful art deco building which is on the register of National Historical Buildings.

Education

Our education programs are possible because of volunteers who enjoy working with children. There are two types of education volunteers: those who help us keep the Lattner Learning Classroom, Boeing STEM Learning Hangar, and the Lattner Hanger fun places for the children to learn and play; and those who want to assist with tours when we host groups of children from kindergarten through high school.

The educational tour volunteers may help children find the right supplies to create with, show them how the simulator talks with the mock control tower, or even help them decide if they’d like to color or build. Our group volunteers will learn about the different activities within a school tour program and work with a group of students to help them learn principles of flight and engineering while they are here. You needn’t be an engineer to volunteer; though several of our volunteers are, we will train you and help you feel comfortable answering questions.

Just imagine walking into our lobby and instantly stepping back into the 1930’s when air travel was new and exciting. That’s the vision we have, and we’re not stopping until that vision is realized. Now on the National Register of Historic Places, the museum’s home is the original Wichita Municipal Airport terminal. The exterior of this grand art deco building has been restored, but there is much work to do inside.

Our building restoration workers range from Eagle Scouts to retirees. All, however, have one thing in common: they love this unique and remarkable building. Building restoration projects range in size and complexity, so we need volunteers with a variety of skills and talents. Whether you are a Jack-(or Jill)-of-all-trades, a licensed contractor or engineer, or somewhere in between, you’ll find a welcoming group to join. From painting and carpentry to landscape and electrical work, we need your skills.

Enhabit is looking for volunteers to provide companionship and support to patients during their final months and weeks of life. As a hospice volunteer you will be given choices as to how much and what types of things you want to do. 

Tuck in calls are brief, telephonic communications with Enhabit Hospice patients. The purpose of these calls is to ensure that patients have adequate supplies and medications going into a weekend or holiday. 

Bridget’s Cradles seeks a reliable person interested in serving as a volunteer home helper on our team. This person will play a large role in allowing us to reach more families and hospitals. Projects will be assigned for completion at home on a weekly or monthly basis, depending on the assignment and volunteer availability. All assignments must be completed and returned to Bridget’s Cradles by the agreed upon due date. Possible duties include, but are not limited to: adding tags to cradles and prayer squares, hole-punching tags, threading ribbon through cradles, and various other projects based on organizational need.

Seeking a motivated person to assist with basic office duties. Great way to gain familiarity with use of the basic office workings and gaining office skills or putting your experience to great use. 

Including but not limited to the following:

- Managing, filling, organizing, maintaining, retrieving, storing and staging official records.

- Assisting Veterans, patients, employees and family members, and others helping those who are completing documents and scheduling appointments.

- Excellent Customer service is a must and absolutely crucial. Curtesy and assisting others in a friendly manner.

- Communicate with full time employees assisting as needed to complete tasks.

- Inter-office communications; pick up and drop off mail room packages, letters, correspondence and other items.

- Information dissemination; assemble, prepare, and mail-out; flyers, mailers, pamphlets, trifolds, and other information packets as needed.

- Preparing, stapling, collating, and sorting letters, documents and correspondence.

- Answering phones, taking messages, and other basic telephone and reception responsibilities.

Volunteers make a tremendous difference for our organization and the animals we serve. Currently nearly 600 volunteers are involved in programs at the Kansas Humane Society and contribute an average of 60,000 volunteer hours annually. Volunteers help in all of our programs throughout the year and tasks range from socializing animals to working with potential adopters. Together, we’re creating a more humane community for all companion animals.

We have numerous volunteer opportunities both in-shelter and from home. Below are some of our most popular areas.

House underage, sick or injured animals in your home until the animal is old enough or well enough to be put up for adoption at the shelter. Approximate fostering time is 2 - 4 weeks. This is a great position for family volunteers. Minimum age is 9 years with a parent.

Do you like to crochet, knit, or sew? RSVP volunteers help to make bags, blankets, sensory blankets, pillows, and beanies to distribute to local schools, special needs schools, DCF, and other community partners that express a need for such items. This can be done in the comfort of your own home. RSVP staff will coordinate with you toward the end of each month to pick-up goods!

If you'd rather make and create in a group setting, we can connect you to a group - just reach out!

RSVP volunteers receive excess medical, excess auto, and volunteer liability insurance. Volunteers that drive over 71 miles in a month are also eligible to receive gas mileage reimbursement.

Projects and tasks Volunteer would be doing. 

- Must be familiar with use of the basic internet and basic workings of computers and commonly accessed website use.

- Calling Veterans who are scheduled for MOVE! Fitness group classes to remind them of the appointment and location and how to get there. 

- Assisting with appointments, must be able to guide someone through the process for getting the emails and getting on the weblink.

- Must be familiar with use of the internet and basic workings of computers and website use.

- Call Veterans who have no-showed for MOVE! Fitness group classes appts.

- Call Veteran’s whose Consults have been Discontinued.  Should have basic enough office skills to maintain a list when the nutrition and dietary consults are cancelled.

- Communicate with full time clerical employees  regarding any appointments that need scheduled or for other scheduling changes on behalf of patients.

- Inter-office communications- to pick up and drop off mail room packages; items produced in Medical Media and other areas of the hospital.

- Mail packets to VVC participants – would need to have basic computer skills to Ship Ticket, thus would need access and use a computers system to find:  Veteran’s address, phone and emails.

- Assemble and mail packets for the MOVE! Intro classes and for VVC (VA Video Connect) MOVE! Forward classes

Vet Centers are community-based counseling centers that provide a wide range of social and psychological services, including professional readjustment counseling to eligible Veterans.

Our services include counseling for needs such as depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and the psychological effects of military sexual trauma (MST). We can also connect you with more support in VA and your community. All services are strictly confidential.

heroes volunteer at the Medical Loan Closet

Bring a hot, nutritious meal to the doors of qualified homebound people 60 and over. Arrive between 10 am and 11:15 to pick up meals. Deliver the meals within the time outlined by program guidelines. Follow delivery instructions and procedures. Report clients who do not answer the door or unusual circumstances to MOW staff. Time commitment is approximately one hour per route.

The Wichita Animal Action League is looking for volunteers who can help staff plan several special events/fundraisers. Duties could include securing donations for the event (not necessarily monetary), helping with logistics, working with others on the planning committee, etc. There are several special events we have coming up, to include an animal rescue walk and a Halloween event. Additional events may be added. Disaster duty officers are a lifeline to temporary assistance during a disaster. Volunteer Duty Officers are responsible for dispatching Red Cross volunteers to meet with families impacted by home fires and other disasters so they can provide temporary relief. Help ensure Veterans make it to vital medical appointments. Volunteers assist VA medical team to make reminder calls and send out reminder notifications. We will provide all the training needed, you just need a friendly voice and a willingness to help others.  

Volunteer today! The Veterans served at the Dole VA need Volunteer Drivers to assist Veterans to make it to much needed medical appointments. Veterans often have no other way to make it medical appointments without the help of caring Volunteers. Vans have been donated by the Disabled American Veterans to help  Veterans meet transportation and medical needs. The only thing you will need is a desire to help others, current car insurance, and a valid  driver’s license.  

The Wichita Animal Action League relies on volunteers to fulfill the mission of rescuing animals in crisis. There are dozens of ways to get involved and make a difference in an animal’s life. This could include helping at adoption events, puppy/kitten yoga, microchip clinics for the community, organizing and/or working WAAL's resale shop, helping with administrative tasks, designing flyers, transporting animals to vet appointments, walking dogs, helping with WAAL's annual fundraiser Wags & Whiskers, just to name a few.

Typical shifts are about 4 hours.  Day and evening shifts are available, however priority needs are weekend mornings, long-distance routes, and evenings.

Tobacco Compliance Checks are a way for the City to determine if local area business are complying with Federal, State and City laws by not selling tobacco products to any person under the age of 18 years old.

Minor volunteers are the key. A City of Wichita Health Inspector and one adult female volunteer take one minor volunteer to a local area business that sells tobacco products. The minor volunteer attempts to purchase tobacco, in full view of a City Inspector. 

REQUIRMENTS FOR VOLUNTEERS: 
• Must be between the ages of 14-20 years old (The City of Wichita passed an ordinance that anyone who purchases tobacco must be 21).
• Must have a Valid Driver’s License, state issued ID card, or a federally issued Passport.

• Must be able to pass a background check.

Dole VA Whole Health program is looking for a certified yoga instructor to teach classes once a week on outpatient Veterans. 

We are located inside a 1938 school building with recurring maintenance needs. Responsibilities include "handy-person" tasks such as changing out florescent light bulbs, fixing door hinges, light plumbing, and maintaining window A/C units. We will pay for any materials needed. This volunteer position has a very flexible schedule. You could be "on call" as needed, or come in on a weekly basis, etc.

This is an opportunity for an individual to pick up the recycling from the Trees for Life office once a week and take it to Pro Kansas Recycling. Time required for each pickup/drop off is approx. 1-2 hours. This position has a very flexible schedule.
