Alumni, here's your chance to volunteer in the community alongside your alma mater!

Join us for WSU’s largest one day volunteer event!  Join your fellow Shockers for a morning of volunteering throughout our community.  Individuals, groups, organizations and students are all invited to attend! Check-in for Wu's Big Event will be from 8:30 to 8:50 a.m.

The kick-off will begin in the Beggs Ballroom, located on the third floor of the Rhatigan Student Center at 9 a.m. with a lite breakfast, and kick-off celebration. Participants will then load the buses and be at a service site by 10 a.m. Volunteers will work until 12 p.m. and return to the Beggs Ballroom for lunch and closing festivities.

Join us for the Shocktoberfest Brew Garden + Fan Fest at Wichita State! This event brings together local breweries, food trucks, live music and lots of fun activities for the whole family. SIGN UP BY SEPTEMBER 5TH

3 – 6 p.m. | Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025 | Wichita State University

Volunteer Positions are:

Set-up: Setting up check-in tables and signage, organizing tables and chairs, and assisting vendors in finding their designated spots upon arrival.

Check-in: Greet attendees, verify IDs, provide wristbands for those over 21, ensure alcohol remains within designated areas, and assist with general event inquiries.

Runner: Assist with any issues that arise as the event begins, ensure effective crowd management, and provide support with final preparations or vendor inquiries.

Clean up: Help with tearing down the event, directing vendors as they leave, and disposing of any waste left in the space.

Time of Shifts:

Set-up: 1:00pm - 3:00pm

Check-In: 2:30pm - 4:30pm | 4:30pm - 6:30pm

Runner: 3:00pm - 4:30pm | 4:30pm - 6:00pm

Clean up: 5:30pm - 6:30pm

Join us for a celebration of Shocker spirit at the annual Shocktoberfest Parade through campus! Student organizations and campus departments can put their creativity and Shocker pride on display at this energy-filled tradition. Shocktoberfest awards are given out to participants for entertainment, creativity, and, of course, people’s choice. SIGN UP BY SEPTEMBER 5TH

Parade begins at 4 p.m. | Saturday, Oct. 4, 2024 | WSU Main Campus

Volunteering for this event includes:

Staging: Place parade yard signs in designated areas including the staging parking and parade route through campus, assist in guiding parade participants to their designated positions in the line-up and help ensure smooth traffic flow upon arrival and drop off, after parade has left, ensure no belonging have been left behind

Parade Route Guide: Positioned along the parade route, assist with setting up barricades in specified locations and ensure traffic is kept off the route until the final entry has passed. After final entry, remove barricade and place to the side of the road. After the last parade entry, pick up any yard signs that are in your area.

The WSU Foundation and Alumni Engagement team is excited to highlight the many diverse small businesses of our alumni, friends and students at this exciting event! Be apart of this event by volunteering to help with set-ups, registration/info desk, event hospitality, or clean-up! SIGN UP BY SEPTEMBER 5TH

10 a.m. – 2 p.m. | Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025 | Rhatigan Student Center, Wichita State University

Volunteer positions are: 

Setup: Arranging booths, setting up signage, organizing tables and chairs, and ensuring all materials are in place.

Registration/info desk: Welcoming attendees, checking them in, handing out materials, providing information about the event schedule and location of booths, and answering general inquiries.

Event hospitality: Directing attendees to different areas of the market, ensuring smooth flow of foot traffic, and assisting with crowd control.

Clean up: Ensuring the venue remains clean during the event, managing waste disposal and helping with the tear-down and clean-up after the event.

Times of shifts:

Set-Up: 8:00am - 10:00am

Registration/Info Desk - 9:30am - 11:30am | 11:30am - 2:00pm

Event Hospitality: 10:00am - 12:00pm | 12:00pm - 2:00pm

Clean-Up: 1:30pm - 2:30pm
