Join us for WSU’s largest one day volunteer event!  Join your fellow Shockers for a morning of volunteering throughout our community.  Individuals, groups, organizations and students are all invited to attend! Check-in for Wu's Big Event will be from 8:30 to 8:50 a.m.

The kick-off will begin in the Beggs Ballroom, located on the third floor of the Rhatigan Student Center at 9 a.m. with a lite breakfast, and kick-off celebration. Participants will then load the buses and be at a service site by 10 a.m. Volunteers will work until 12 p.m. and return to the Beggs Ballroom for lunch and closing festivities.

Help staff clean up the zoo after Zoobilee, our largest fundraising event, in order to open back up to the public by Noon! Clean up entails: picking up trash, moving remaining Pepsi products behind-the-scenes, taking down tents, stacking tables/chairs, and more.

Shift will be scheduled from 7:00 AM - 12:00 PM. However, most tasks are completed earlier and do not take up the entire time frame.

Help make the 4th Annual Drone Light Festival a success! Shifts are from 4:00 PM - 10:00 PM. Assignments vary from helping with check-in, security, parking, seat ushers, and more.

Because of the great community support, Kidzcope is able to serve grieving children and families at no cost. Kidzcope provides healing and counseling services through the generosity of volunteers, donors and community partners.

Set-up: Setting up check-in tables and signage, organizing tables and chairs, and assisting vendors in finding their designated spots upon arrival.

Runner: Assist with any issues that arise as the event begins, ensure effective crowd management, and provide support with final preparations or vendor inquiries.

Clean up: Help with tearing down the event, directing vendors as they leave, and disposing of any waste left in the space.

Student organizations and campus departments can put their creativity and Shocker pride on display at this energy-filled tradition. Volunteering for this event includes:

Staging: Place parade yard signs in designated areas including the staging parking and parade route through campus, assist in guiding parade participants to their designated positions in the line-up and help ensure smooth traffic flow upon arrival and drop off, after parade has left, ensure no belonging have been left behind

Parade Route Guide: Positioned along the parade route, assist with setting up barricades in specified locations and ensure traffic is kept off the route until the final entry has passed. After final entry, remove barricade and place to the side of the road. After the last parade entry, pick up any yard signs that are in your area.

Help us make the holiday brighter for thousands of local children as we distribute toys and gifts to thousands of families in need. This will involve standing, walking, lifting and bending for most positions. Limited seated positions available.

Food distribution volunteers pack food into bags, stock shelves, check clients in, and load client cars. Ability to bend, crouch, stand for extended periods of time and lift at least 10 lbs required. Volunteers in this position may work outside in all types of weather.

Join the Community Service Board at the Kansas Food Bank Warehouse. Volunteers will help with sorting and organizing food that will be distributed throughout Kansas through various initiatives offered by the Kansas Food Bank. Join your fellow shockers volunteering to help prepare a meal for residents staying at the Ronald McDonald House. Volunteers will help with food preparation and clean-up. No experience is necessary and everyone is welcome!

At One Heart Project, we partner volunteer mentors with justice-involved and at-risk youth to provide a healthy relationship that encourages youth to envision a brighter future.  Mentors meet weekly for 30 minutes to an hour throughout either a 3 month or 8 month cohort session.  Potential mentors will participate in training and coaching through One Heart Project.  Contact Bryce Fuhrmann for more information.

Join the Community Service Board volunteering to help our neighbors in the Shocker Community to keep their neighborhoods clean and beautiful. A Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) is appointed by a judge to be an independent voice in court for an abused and/or neglected child.

A big part of an advocate's duty is to visit with the child at least once a month.  The appointed volunteer will work with the child or children until they are placed in loving permanent homes and the case is closed. For many abused children, a CASA volunteer offers a needed constant adult presence in their lives.

Most volunteer spend 5-10 hours a month volunteering.

30 hours of training will be provided, and background checks will be performed before being appointed.

Rivercross Healthcare is seeking bedside vigil volunteers to provide support to patients and families in the last days as patients transition. Bedside vigils can assist with running errands for family members, providing relief so they know the patient isn't alone, provide a listening ear for loved ones of the patient, and other various tasks. The most important part of being a bedside vigil volunteer is to ensure the patient is in a comfortable and quiet environment. The volunteer should encourage the family to play soft music for the patient, talk in soft tones, and make other suggestions to ensure the patient has a peaceful transition from this life into the next.

Assist with weeding, gardening help, landscaping, playground cleanup, repairing toys, painting and other tasks as needed.

Letters Against Isolation is a volunteer-run nonprofit that coordinates volunteers to mail friendly, handwritten letters to seniors facing social isolation. We're hoping to extend our outreach in Kansas and create more opportunities for United Way of the Plains volunteers.

Join the Community Service Board for Senior Saturdays! Senior Saturdays provides an opportunity for Shockers to interact with local seniors and at Larksfield Senior Living Community. Volunteers may assist with various tasks including; yard work, playing games, reading together or just spend time chatting with seniors. No experience is necessary.

Join Wichita Clean Stream’s, Wichita RiverWalk Cleanup Crew for a morning of cleaning up the area around the Arkansas and Little Arkansas River. Gloves, trash bags and materials will be provided. Volunteers will meet at a location determined before the event. Volunteers will be given exact location of event via email before the event. 

Volunteers are needed to assist with the Pando Initiative's, Reality U. This event gives middle school students a chance to step into the shoes of a 28-year-old, with a career, family and financial responsibilities in a simulation of adulthood. As they walk through a series of booths, manned by community volunteers, the students make financial decisions from car and home purchases to insurance and childcare commitments while trying not to spend more than they can afford. Volunteers are utilized at each booth to assist students in making their purchases and/or selecting a service.

Join the Community Service Board serving dinner at the Lord’s Diner. The Lord’s Diner provides a free meal seven days a week, 365 days a year. Duties may include serving food, busing dishes, refilling drinks, dining hall clean-up, and washing dishes. Please wear closed-toed shoes and pants.

We are looking for Volunteers to Join us once a month for fun events at various assisted living facilities.

Events can include, Bingo, Carnival Games, Karaoke Days, Movie Days, etc., and can take up anywhere from 2-4 hours.

Data entry volunteers greet clients, take them through a client information form and enter completed forms into our database. Data entry volunteers must be comfortable with computers and willing to learn our database. This is a client facing position.

We're looking for Volunteers to visit the Kansas Veterans Home with us once a month to participate in group activities for the veterans that live there. These activities can include bingo, puzzles, movie days, etc.

Storage room organizers sort donated items into their proper locations, clean and organize shelter storage rooms, and label items. Ability to stand for extended periods of time, crouch, bend, climb and carry at least 20lbs is required for this position.

Qualifications include: Good organizational skills, ability to use a ladder and lift heavy objects if necessary

Looking for volunteers with a flexible schedule that allows them to come in at least twice a month.

Volunteers in this position are required to pass a background check and take a 3 hour class called VIRTUS. VIRTUS teaches adults the signs of child abuse and neglect as well as the best practices Catholic Charities follows to protect youth and vulnerable adults in our ministries.

Provide companionship, in-home care and/or respite care to homebound senior clients 60 years of age and older. Senior Companions earn a stipend by volunteering 15 - 40 hours per week. Provide in-home care such as light housekeeping (dusting, light meal preparation) and transportation to appointments. Provide social support.

Our disaster team, made up of community volunteers, provides care to individuals impacted by disasters. We also serve first responders and emergency workers. EDS volunteers can choose to respond to local, regional, national disasters, and even global disasters.

Training is required and provided for those who are interested in serving. Must be 18.

As part of the cleaning crew, you will be responsible for ensuring there is food and water in each room; light cleaning of any messes; and ideally deep cleaning one room for that scheduled shift. Please let us know if you are interested in or are already comfortable with giving medications to cats. This should take 1.5-2hrs per shift. Each month our shelter does a deep clean. Onboarding training will be with another volunteer and likely done during our storefront hours: Friday 11-3, Saturday 11-4, or Sunday 12-4. Once the onboarding training is complete, you will be able to schedule yourself for shifts on our calendar. There are morning and night shifts seven days a week. You don't need to project your shift very far in advance or be consistent with the same shift every week. Some volunteers come twice a week to once a month. We appreciate any time you are able to dedicate to our cats. All cleaning supplies will be provided. Children 7 and older are welcome to volunteer with a parent. Playing with cats is the real perk here! Whatever your skill is there is a place for you here at Save the Kitties.

Greet visitors, answer phones, take orders for our Community Food Pantry, and assist with other general office tasks. Become familiar with the agency and provide information. We rely on the time and talent of people who share our call to serve the poor and those in need of help. Computer experience is appreciated but not required. This role could also provide backup to the Community Food Pantry if desired.

Dear Neighbor is open Monday through Friday 8am-5pm. This volunteer role is a 2-4 hour shift once a week or once a month. We will gladly work around your schedule.

Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming environment for all visitors by assisting with cleaning, organizing supplies, and preparing the community center for daily activities and events. Naturally Crafty is a weekly craft time geared towards little learners ages 0-5! This is an opportunity for anyone wanting to work alongside kids with fun, easy-to-complete crafts while learning about nature. All volunteers must complete a volunteer interview and the necessary paperwork to begin.

Our small but mighty Riparian Restorers team gathers to collect trash and debris from the banks and creeks inside Chisholm Creek Park! This is a great opportunity for anyone willing to get into some waders, get muddy, and get curious about what's found in the creek. The goal is to help encourage a healthy riparian zone and ecosystem while alleviating these areas of blockages and pollution.

All participants must complete a volunteer interview and sign the necessary waivers to begin work. This is a weather-dependent opportunity.

"Look beyond what is in front of you and see what could be". anonymous The Mental Health Association of South Central KS, is looking for outstanding individuals to become Compeer mentors. Compeer is a national mentoring program hosted by MHA that serves the needs of those dealing with mental health issues (or who have a guardian dealing with Mental health issues). Currently we are recruiting mentors for our Compeer Lunch Buddy program. Volunteers are trained in mentoring and mental health before they are matched with a student. Once matched, they spend at least one hour a week at the student's school during lunch/recess. Step up and provide a child with a positive role model, mentor, and caring friend; be a Lunch Buddy and make a difference for you and them.

Phoenix Home Care and Hospice is searching for a compassionate volunteer who knows how to bring joy and light to others! We need someone to deliver treats to 3-6 patients each month to celebrate their birthdays. Many hospice patients spend their special day confined to their homes or rooms, and a friendly visit can truly brighten their spirits. Join us in making these moments unforgettable and spreading happiness where it’s needed most!

Brighten a Veteran's Day! The Dole VA is in need of Volunteers willing to take magazines, books and other hospitality items to patient waiting rooms and areas around the hospital.  Come in as little as twice a month for an hour or two and make a big difference. Volunteers bring reading materials, like newspapers, magazines, coffee and books to patients to make their hospital stay as pleasant as possible.

Girls on the Run coaches are trained volunteers who lead a team of participants through a season of powerful and fun lessons. You do not need to be a runner; you simply need to have a desire to support and encourage the next generation. ACS CAN Legislative Ambassador

Summary

Legislative Ambassadors are important members of ACS CAN’s volunteer team. Ambassadors work with staff and volunteer leaders in their state to establish personal, ongoing relationships with elected officials to advance policy change around cancer issues. They play an important role in making the fight against cancer a top priority with federal, state, and local elected officials.

Some of ACS CAN’s major campaigns include increasing funding for cancer research, prevention, and screening programs, passing laws to reduce the burden of tobacco, and building programs to address health disparities and improve the quality of life for those affected by cancer.  Our volunteers work in teams at the local level to build relationships with elected officials and share their stories.  Our highly organized volunteer program provides access to training, tools, and resources to amplify our voices and our impact.

Responsibilities:

Time Commitment:  1-5 hours per month

Greeting and assisting Museum Visitors in the Museum Store/Gift Shop and conducting sales as sales cashier. Sometimes busy, sometimes very quiet, so bring something to read!

Responsibilities:
* Welcome all patrons as they enter the Gift Shop.
* Accurately answer routine questions/inquiries in a helpful and courteous manner.
* Process sales efficiently
* Thank the patron and encourage them to return.
* Occasional restocking of small items
* Tidying of work area

Shifts are typically available:

Tues-Fri 11:00am-1:30pm & 1:30pm-4:00pm 

Sat & Sun 1:00pm-5:00pm

(Additional shifts are sometimes added for special events and programs. Your first shift will be scheduled over email with a seasoned volunteer to assist in training. After that, shifts are selected on a first-come-first-served basis through our SignUpGenius page.)

To provide engaging, accurate, and fun guided museum experiences to all ages.

A historical museum docent is an eager and enthusiastic volunteer who is dedicated to telling the story of our community.

Docents receive training on the areas of the museum that interest them the most, learning more about the history, culture, and artifacts featured in the museum's exhibits. They are passionate about sharing information and stories with visitors of all ages and backgrounds.

As a historical museum docent, you may lead groups of visitors (typically not more than 10 per group) on tours of the museum's exhibits, providing them with insights and information about the artifacts they are viewing. (Examples of tours: Senior Wednesday Program, School Field Trips, Family Programs during school breaks and weekends). These opportunities are often during the week and can be scheduled anytime between 9am-4pm.

Occasionally, Docents are requested for off-site speaking engagements in the evenings, for groups requesting talks on local history at their club or meeting location.

Additionally, Docents are needed during our Free Sundays to provide our drop-in guests with available contacts throughout the museum for any questions they have during their visit. These opportunities are flexible to your availability during Museum Hours 1-5pm.

Docent opportunities are a wonderful opportunity to connect with the community and are open to your schedule and availability.

No previous background required – great for teachers/educators, performers, history enthusiasts, professional communicators, students, proud community members, and more!

Volunteers are needed at least twice a month (30-40 minutes) in one of 60 middle or elementary schools beginning in September. Volunteers can play board games, shoot baskets, eat lunch, or just chat about things that are on the child's mind. All materials provided. A minimum one year commitment is asked. Minimum age is 18 and volunteer must be out of high school.

Must be experienced in Spanish medical terminolgy and be confident about interpreting in a cliniclal setting. Position conforms with HIPAA regulations.

Should be able to volunteer one session per month (3-4 hours) Clinic will conduct a background check.

We need medical scribes with experience to accompany our doctors as they consult with patients. They are provided with a Chrome notebook for the purpose. Must be over 18 and will require a background check and references. Sessions can vary.

Ascension Via Christi - St Francis & St Joseph, is seeking compassionate volunteers to serve in its Surgery Waiting Room. The important role assists patients, families, physicians and staff. Criiter Tales is a fun, interactive story time on Wednesday mornings from 10am-10:30am. Volunteers choose nature-centered stories and activities to use for our littlest visitors ages 0-5. This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to get into early education or anyone who has retired from it! We welcome anyone 16 and older with a background check. All volunteers must interview with our on-site volunteer coordinator prior to beginning work with us. 

The Tanganyika Docent Program is for people who believe that we are responsible for being stewards of the earth’s rare and endangered species. To fulfill Tanganyika’s mission, we must have a significant impact on the lives of people by providing REAL experiences that are entertaining and educational.

Docents are assistant educators who share a passion for animals and for engaging students and adults in interactive experiences.

Docents can volunteer in various activities around the park, including our Education Programs, Camps & Classes, Animal Encounter Stations, Special Events, Office Projects, Animal Handling and Animal Care (Over 18). Some of these activities, like Animal Care, do require onsite training before you are eligible to participate.

Docents sign up for the activities and programs that fit their interests and schedule, so it’s a great flexible option for busy students and professionals alike.

Licensed medical volunteers are required to care for those in need. We will schedule patients per your schedule and provide medical support staff and interpreters as required.

We serve every Sunday morning from 8-11am. Set usually starts around 7:45am. We are in the parking lot 445 N Market. We have our mobile shower unit available for those experiencing homelessness to take hot showers in our private unit. We provide their towel, toiletries and other supplies.

As part of the storefront crew, you have the biggest impact by being responsible for greeting customers, assisting with adoption and playtime waiver paperwork, showing off the adoptable cats, light cleaning the storefront, managing payments from storefront purchases, adoption fees, and donations, and playing with the storefront free-roaming cats. Our storefront hours are Friday 11-3, Saturday 11-4, and Sunday 12-4. Training will be provided during another volunteer's scheduled shift. Once onboarding training is completed, you will schedule yourself for shifts on our calendar. Some volunteers are scheduled each week while others fill in for vacant shifts. We do ask that you can fulfill the entire shift or find someone to fill the unmanned portion. Typically Saturday and Sunday are our busiest days. Playing with cats is the real perk here!

As a foster parent, you bring a cat into your home for a limited amount of time and play a major role in helping that cat to be ready for adoption. As part of the cleaning crew, you will be responsible for ensuring there is food and water in each room; light cleaning of any messes; and ideally deep cleaning one room for that scheduled shift. Please let us know if you are interested in or are already comfortable with giving medications to cats. This should take 1.5-2hrs per shift. Each month our shelter does a deep clean. Onboarding training will be with another volunteer and likely done during our storefront hours: Friday 11-3, Saturday 11-4, or Sunday 12-4. Once the onboarding training is complete, you will be able to schedule yourself for shifts on our calendar. There are morning and night shifts seven days a week. You don't need to project your shift very far in advance or be consistent with the same shift every week. We appreciate any time you are able to dedicate to our cats. All cleaning supplies will be provided. Playing with cats is the real perk here! Whatever your skill is there is a place for you here at Save the Kitties.

If you're committed to giving a couple hours a week and want to impact a child's life, we have an ongoing need for volunteers like you at our Andover, East, Eldorado, Farha Sport Center (Andover & South), Newton, North, Northwest, South and West YMCA. 

Coach/facilitate practices and games while providing a safe environment for youth to learn, grow and develop through various sports. Attend coaches meetings and related functions. Contact all team members and inform them of practice times and dates as well as pass out materials to parents when necessary. Maintain equipment and materials in an orderly and safe manner. Exhibit an positive and encouraging attitude.

Prior experience  is helpful as well as general knowledge of sport being coached. Must enjoy working with and relating to children at a particular skill and age level. Must be eager to instruct, motivate, and be a positive role model and fully support the YMCA Youth Sports Philosophy. Because the safety of our children and members is extremely important to us, the Y reserves the right to conduct background and reference checks on all volunteers.

Our Literacy Volunteers work with students of all ethnicities and ages to improve skills in math, reading, writing, digital literacy, and employment. Classes include students who are

Class times include afternoons and evenings at our El Dorado and Andover campuses as well as Wichita locations including the Butler Service Center in southeast Wichita, Workforce Center in northwest Wichita, and at the Evergreen Community Center.

Provide meal service support during lunch at our Manufacturing facility in south Wichita. Volunteers will plate and serve meals through the kitchen window to employees and consumers during lunch breaks. 

Volunteer at our events held in or Wichita, KS usually in the month of August.  Volunteers will help with check in, silent/live auction, set up, clean up and many other opportunities the night of the event.

Wish Granters are volunteers that meet with a wish kid and their family in pairs to help them determine their one true wish. Wish Granters get to know the wish child by asking them their favorite things, playing games and interacting with them to really understand the most important parts of their wish. Wish Granters are trained by Make-A-Wish staff to ensure they are comfortable and have everything they need to help make the child's wish come true.  The Wish Granters work with the Make-A-Wish staff to make the wish come true.  It is a very rewarding volunteer opportunity which will bring hope, strength and joy to these amazing kids. 

Help sort & process clothing, shoes and household items that have been donated by individuals and businesses. Distribute to areas needed or stored.

We're currently seeking individuals who are interested in helping plan and coordinate the Wichita Walk to End Alzheimer's. A growing fundraising event focused on growing awareness and raising funds for Alzheimer's support, care, education and research. We will find the first survivor but we need your help in doing so.

We are currently seeking individuals to help the Alzheimer's Association place personal calls to our constituents during this uncertain time. The health and safety of our participants and volunteers remain our drivers as we address the COVID-19 outbreak and as we continue to pursue our mission, today and in the longer term. Building relationships with our Team Captains, Sponsors and Champions is even more vital.

All volunteers willing to make calls will be provided scripts and contact information. 

Multiple events throughout the year need day of event volunteers for set up, tear down, working booths/activities, etc.  If you're interested in this role, we'll reach out with upcoming event opportunities.
